Synopsis:
I travelled through Mauritania to find a tree that I see from my window in Belgium. Not a mythical tree but a tree, like you find them everywhere. On my way, I met men and women who told me their perceptions of my quest, delivering their vision of the world and of existence in convoluted ways. For some, the tree was a sign of geniuses, of the invisible, or a call for Light. For others, it was the symbol of a history, of a culture or of the end of an era. For others still, it was a tree you can only see when you are lost… This documentary, “Far Away Roots”, is a poetic crossing on a quest for an elsewhere and other ways of thinking. But it is also a tale of unfinished love, for a woman who stayed behind.
