Synopsis:
Everything started more than five years ago in a blue Peugeot criss-crossing Belgium roads. A collective of former film and photography students got together with the same desire: to direct a film about abandoned industrial architecture. The months pass by and the team has evolved, as has the project. An experimental film by young film directors, UzinesS has taken shape and been streamlined to give birth to a three-part work, comprising a 60-minute film, a series of black and white photographs and a book combining pictures and writing. Three approaches to the same subject are tackled through the different sensitivities involved in this work. Four places, four enclaves emblematic of excessive industrial activity that Belgium and Europe experienced in the last century, are at the heart of this aesthetic approach: the Coal Mine of Hasard de Cheratte in the province of Liège, the coke works of Anderlues, a stone’s throw from Charleroi, the Forges of Clabecq in Walloon Brabant and the Monceau train station, hidden in the heart of Hainaut.
