Synopsis:
In 1970 alone, the senator of Brabant, Jean-Florian Collin, had an inventory of 4,339 flats, 662 studios and more than 2,500 garages. In 1969, his business took in more than two billion Belgian francs in sales. His dream? To sell a flat to every Belgian household with an average income. But the developer failed in 1970, the victim of his own outsized ambition. The announcement of this news led to turmoil among the Belgian population. Two thousand home- owners, who had gone into debt to buy their homes, travelled to Brussels to have their voices heard. The «father of low-cost housing for mid-level managers» died virtually penniless in 1985. What legacy did he leave to Belgium? Access to home ownership.
