Synopsis:
From Sun Yat-sen’s democratic revolt in 1911 to the death of Mao in 1976, China freed itself from the Western powers. Seventy years of complex relations between the Middle Kingdom, the United States and Russia, presaging the global geostrate- gic upheavals to come. In late October 2012, China will see a handover of power that occurs just once every 10 years: most of the members of the governing bodies of the Chinese Communist Party will be replaced and the country’s next President will be named. For the first time, this role will be held by a man who was not handpicked by either Mao Zedong or Deng Xiaoping. The problem is that the West, a victim of its own narcissistic tendencies, does not see clearly enough that one of the most important changes the world has known in four centuries is now underway: the centre of power is shifting from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
