Synopsis:
Ray Richardson grew up in the working-class district of Woolwich in south-east London, and there was nothing in his background to suggest that he would become one of the major figures in British figurative painting. It is on the South Bank of the Thames that he finds the subject matter for his work, in which he transposes cinematographic techniques taken from the vocabulary of ‘film noir’.
