Two more Belgian coproductions in Toronto

This 22nd August, the Discovery section’s programmation has been revealed : two Belgian coproductions will be part of it. 

Gutland, by the Luxembourgish Govinda van Maele, is co-produced by Novak Prod.

In this surrealist rural noir, starring Frederick Lau and Vicky Krieps, a thief from a distant German city finds refuge in a small Luxembourgish village. As he is gradually integrated into the community, it emerges that he’s not the only one with a past to hide.

Gutland is produced by Les Films Fauves (LU), Novak Prod (BE) and Propeller Film (DE). The film is also supported by Arte / ZDF, Film Fund Luxembourg, the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government and Eurimages.

Soldati, by Ivana Mladenovic, is co-produced by Frakas Productions.

Adi, a young anthropologist, moved to Ferentari, one of the poorest districts of Bucharest to write a thesis on manele (pop music of the Roma communities). During his researches, he meets Alberto, an ex-thief who offers him his help. A love story quickly arose between the two men.

The film is produced by Hi Film Productions, Film House Bas Celik and Frakas Productions, in co-production with Proximus. It has received the support of Eurimages and the following partners: Centrului National al Cinematografiei Romania, Film Center Serbia, Casa Kafka Pictures (Tax Shelter), Living Pictures Serbia, Transilvania Pitch Stop, Cinelink Sarajevo , Mobra Film, Microfilm. Beta Cinema is in charge of international sales.

Sound has been made in Belgium by Yves Bemelmans. Marc Aberisio and Valentin Mazingarbe edited the film and Aurélie Lebourg did the mixing.

The Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 7 to 17.
