"The elephant and the butterfly" awarded at Rome

Presented in Alice nella città, the independent section of the Rome Film Festival devoted to films for teenagers, The elephant and the butterfly, second feature of Belgian director Amélie Van Elmbt, has been awarded the best actor for Thomas Blanchard.

The film tells the story of Antoine who returns to Brussels after five years. But his return turns out to be more complicated than he bargained for. Antoine is confronted by his remorse. He thinks of Camille, the woman he once loved who is also the mother of their little girl Elsa, whom he has never met. He decides to go and see her, but when he knocks on the door, Camille is just leaving on an important business trip. She is waiting for the baby-sitter who is late. Camille panics that she'll miss her plane, and asks Antoine to wait for the baby-sitter. Unable to refuse, Antoine agrees. He is far from imagining that the baby-sitter will never turn up and that he will find himself alone, face to face with his daughter for three hot summer days.

This prize comes one week after the The Grand Prize for Best Narrative Feature (and a cash prize of $25,000) won at Heartland international Film Festival (USA).

The elephant and the butterfly is produced by Les Films du Fleuve, in coproduction with Why Not Productions (France), Verdi Productions (USA), RTBF and Be TV with the support of Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles.
