"Gardiens" awarded at Montpellier

During the closing ceremony of Cinemed Festival Saturday October 27th, Gardiens by Berivan Binevsa has been awarded by the Canal+ Prize.

Gardiens, short film produced and directed by the Belgian-Kurdish director Berivan Binevsa, has received the Canal+ Prize by the « Programmes Courts & Créations » Canal+ team. This Prize also ensures the broadcasting of Gardiens on tv. The film competed in the Short Films section.

Supported by Playtime Films, Gardiens tells the story of Midas, his sister Rodin and their friend Siyabend, three Yezidi children, who live together in a refugee camp in Turkey for people from Kurdistan. Every day Midas devotes himself to the same mission; to escape from the camp to go watch the border to await the return of their parents. One day Midas’ binoculars stop working…

Founded in 1979, the International Film Festival of Mediterranean Cinema takes place each year in autumn in Montpellier. Through its selection, the Festival wants to introduce to the cinemas of the Mediterranean basin, the Black Sea, Portugal and Armenia. For this 40th edition, the Cinemed Festival took place from October 19 to 27.

Berivan Binevsa is currently developing her next film La Vierge et l’enfant, first feature film co-written with David Lambert (Hors les murs, Troisièmes Noces). Produced by Playtime Films, the film is about a young Kurdish Yezidie in Brussels just rescued from the hell of Daesh. The film has received the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles.
