5 Belgian short films at REGARD Festival

For its 23rd edition, REGARD – Saguenay International Short Film Festival has selected not less than 5 Belgian french-speaking films in its competition.

Produced by les APACH, Suspension d’audience is Nina Marissaux’s first feature. Born in 1996 in Belgium, she started her cinema studies 3 years ago at La Haute École Libre of Brussels, where she has finished Suspension d’audience. Her film presents five civils who get to know each other at a criminal trial. During recess, they discuss and share their reactions towards the situation.

Une soeur, directed by Delphine Girard and produced by Versus Production, will also be presented at Saguenay. The story tells us about A night. A car. A woman in trouble. A call.

Another Belgian french-speaking film in competition during this 23rd edition of REGARD Festival, Simbiosis Carnal by Rocio Alvarez and produced by Zorobabel. The film invites us to a poetic journey through the history of desire and sexuality, from the first unicellular organism to human beings, who invent the calculated pleasure: eroticism. A story plagued by moral conflicts, in which the female pleasure was long ignored and repressed takes pride of place, and which culminates in an explosive finale.

Last films which will be in competition : Nuit chérie by Lia Bertels and produced by Ambiances...ASBL and Promenons-nous, directed by Hugo Frassetto and produced by La Boîte...Productions, in co-production with Les Films du Nord (France).

Synopsis Nuit Chérie : In winter, a bear cannot fall asleep. He is thinking too much and feeling blue. A monkey suggests that they go to his aunt’s house, so the bear can eat some honey and take his mind off things. During that strange night, the bear realizes that he did well not to fall asleep…

Synopsis Promenons-nous : Five wolf cubs are playing in the woods and teasing Daddy Wolf who is getting ready to go out and "eat them all up" ! A musical take on a famous traditional nursery rhyme.

All these films have been supported by the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel of Wallonia Brussels Federation.
