2 Belgian films awarded at Vila Do Conde

During the closure ceremony of the 27th edition of Curtas Festival Vila do Conde, Purpleboy and Panique au village! La foire agricole have been awarded.

Presented as world premiere, Purpleboy has received two awards during the festival : the Best Animation Award and the Movistar Award.

Directed by Alexandre Siquiera, Purpleboy tells about Oscar’s story. Oscar is a child germinating in its parent’s garden. Its body is developing underground. Nobody knows its biological sex but he wants to be a boy. One day, Oscar gets out of the ground and discovers his female body. After this painful discovery, is his desired identity finally going to be accepted?

Produced by Bando a Parte (Portugal), Rainbox (France), Ambiances... asbl and Luna Blue Film in Belgium. With the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel of Wallonia-Brussels Federation, ARTE, CNC and ICA, the tax shelter of the Federal Government and Shelter Prod.

Directed by Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar and produced by Panique !, Panique au Village - La Foire agricole has received the Audience Award.

Synopsis : After much hard work and self-sacrifice, Indian and Cowboy pass their school exams with flying colors. To reward them for their efforts, Horse buys them VIP passes for the Annual Agricultural Fair – but when he leaves the living room to go get them, he slips on a skateboard that had been left lying around and comes crashing down on his head. When Horse wakes up in the hospital, he’s suffering from amnesia and has no idea where he hid the tickets. So begins a race against time for Indian and Cowboy who must get hold of the precious passes before it’s too late…

Created in 1993, Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival is one of the most important cinematographic and cultural events in Portugal dedicated to short-films and annually produced in July, in Vila do Conde. For its 27th edition, the Festival took place from July 6 to 14.
