"Pompei" by Anna Falguères and John Shank at Toronto

The Toronto International Film Festival has revealed, this Thursday August 8, a new part of the official selection of its 44th edition. Among all the presented films in the « Discovery » section, Pompei by the Belgian directors Anna Falguères and John Shank.

First feature film co-written and co-directed by Anna Falguères, Pompei will be presented in the « Discovery » section, dedicated to emerging author films. The selection of the film in Toronto also marks, eight years after the presentation of his first feature film Last Winter, the come back of John Shank at TIFF.

The cast includes young actors Garance Marillier, Aliocha Schneider, Vincent Rottiers, Auguste Wilhelm and Judith Williquet.

The story takes place in a deserted region where Victor and his younger brother Jimmy are left to fend for themselves. In the group they belong to, the cycle of sentimental misery seems eternal. When Victor falls in love with Billie, a young girl dreaming of romance, things slowly begin to change for Jimmy.

Pompei is produced by Tarantula Belgique, Good Fortune Films (France) and micro_scope (Canada). In co-production with RTBF (Belgian broadcasting) and VOO-Be tv, with the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l'Audiovisuel of Wallonia Brussels Federation, Tax Shelter of the Belgian Government, Casa Kafka Pictures Movie Tax Shelter empowered by Belfius, and Eurimages. With the support of the Region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur in collaboration with CNC, produced with the Financial support of Téléfilm Canada, the Region of Occitanie in collaboration with CNC, SODEC - Société de développement des entreprises culturelles – Québec, Québec - the Crédit d'impôt cinéma et télévision - Gestion SODEC, the Canadian Crédit d'impôt pour production cinématographique ou magnétoscopique. With the support of the European Union MEDIA Programme, in association with Cinémage 13 and To Be Continued.

The film will be released and distributed in France by Jour2Fête. It will be distributed in Belgium by Cinéart and in Canada by Métropole Film Distribution.

In addition, the co-production Noura's Dream will also be presented at Toronto this year. Already selected at San Sebastian in the « New Director » section, Noura’s Dream is the first feature film by Belgo-Tunisian director Hinde Boujemaa.

Synopsis : While her husband is in jail, Noura meets Lassad. They love each other and want to live together, but Jamel gets out of jail and because of a law  Noura just has to get back to normal with him.

Noura’s Dream is co-produced by Eklektik Productions, with Propaganda Production (Tunisie) and Les Films de l’après-midi (France). With the support of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel of the Brussels Wallonia Federation and Shelter Prod.

The film will be released by Wild Bunch. It will be distributed in Belgium by O’brother, in Tunisia by Hakka Distribution and in France by Paname Distribution.
