"Our Children" awarded in Athens

14th Athens Festival of French Speaking Cinema Jury Prize for Belgian director Joachim Lafosse's latest film.

The jury of the Athens Festival of French Speaking Cinema, presided by film composer Alexandre Desplat, awarded its coveted jury prize to Joachim Lafosse for his film Our Children. This film, which premiered May 2012 at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard - where Émilie Dequenne pinched the Best Actress award – made a strong impression at various prominent international film festivals including London, New York, Sao Paulo and Montréal…. Earlier in February this year, the film pinched no less than four ‘Magrittes du Cinéma’, among which the award for best film, best director and best actress.

The Athens Festival of French Speaking Cinema, which this year was in its 14th edition, is intended to spotlight French speaking film production. It is supported by the embassies of France, Belgium, Canada, Luxemburg, Morocco and Romania in Greece. Opening on April 6, the festival was concluded on April 10 with the jury announcing its roll of honour.

Joachim Lafosse is currently preparing a new project inspired by the « Arche de Zoé » affair - the humanitarian organization which in 2007 made headlines after it attempted to bring over 103 children from Chad to Europe.
