2 shorts shortlisted for the Academy Awards

French speaking Belgium will propose two short films for the 2015 Academy Award for Best Short Film.

To compete for the Best Short Film Award, a short film has to win a prize at a prominent festival which has been qualified by the Academy.
As a result two short films from Wallonia-Brussels will qualify for a nomination for the world’s most prestigious film awards.

One of them is Jennah, the graduation film by Meryem Benm' Barek (INSAS) which took the Grand Prix for best short film at the 32nd Rhode Island International Film Festival in August earlier this year. This short film follows the coming of age of an adolescent girl and her difficult relationship with her mother as well as the discovery of her femininity.

The other contestant will be Serge Mirzabekiantz’s La Faveur des Moineaux, a Hélicotronc production which took the Golden Gate Award for Best Short film at the 57th San Francisco International Film Festival in May earlier this year. This film follows the charming quarrels between two brothers: 11-year old Albert and 13-year old Edgar.

The outcome is expected in a couple of weeks!
