Beyond the walls won the Grand Rail d’Or at Cannes

First good news from Cannes for the Belgian cinema : the Grand Rail d’Or for Best Feature Film - a prize awarded by a group of film enthusiasts, members of the association Ceux du Rail (railwaymen), who attend La Semaine de la Critique screenings - was awarded this Thursday evening to the film Beyond the walls by the young Belgian director David Lambert.

Screened last Sunday in the frame of La Semaine de la Critique, the first David Lambert’s feature was greeted with enthusiasm by the press, the public and the film industry.

Today Films Boutique, which sells the film internationally, announced the purchase of the film in France, Canada, Germany and Taiwan. According to their forecasts, a deal is expected to be signed soon for England, the United States and Poland. Films Boutique also hopes to sell Beyond the walls to other additional territories at the end of the market.

Produced by Frakas, in co-production with Les Productions Balthazar (France) and Boréal Films (Canada), the film will be released in Canada (International Filmoption) in June, while the Belgian and France (Epicentre Films) releases are planned for late 2012-2013.

Shooted in Brussels, Beyond the walls is a love story between two young boys. Paulo (Matila Malliarakis), a young pianist living an ambivalent life with Anka, meets Ilir (Guillaume Gouix), a loner bass player. It’s love at first sight and they start living on love alone. The day Paulo promises to love him for life, Ilir leaves town for a concert, and never comes back...

David Lambert becomes scriptwriter when he reaches thirty. He collaborates on many feature film scripts with French and Belgium directors. The last film The Boat Race was released in 2010. He was also co-writer on Delphine Noels’s film Post partum with Mélanie Doutey and Jalil Lespert, the shooting ended this spring. His first short film Vivre encore un peu... was selected at the Locarno International Film Festival and over 50 other festivals as well, and won over 10 prices. Beyond the walls is his first feature film, I am yours his second film, is currently in development.
