Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress goes to Emilie Dequenne

The Award for Best Actress at Un Certain Regard was awarded to Emilie Dequenne for her astonishing performance in Our Children by the Belgian director Joachim Lafosse (Nue Propriété, Eleve Libre).

Screened last Tuesday, the last Joachim Lafosse's feature has deeply moved Cannes Festival. The national and international press consider Our Children as the greatest film by the young director. Thirteen years after Rosetta, Emilie Dequenne does a remarkable performance which favorably impressed the public and the press.

Our Children is a psychological drama film marks a reunion between Murielle (Emilie Dequenne) and Mounir (Tahar Rahim) who are madly in love. Since his childhood, the young man has lived with Doctor Pinget, who ensures he wants for nothing. When Mounir and Murielle decide to get married and have kids, the couple’s dependence on the doctor becomes excessive. Murielle thus finds herself trapped in a stifling emotional environment that insidiously leads the family towards a tragic demise.

Produced by Versus production, the film will be released in Belgium on May 30th. French distributor Les Films du Losange, who will release the film in theaters in France on September 5, will also handle the international sales.
