Jaco Van Dormael strikes home in Berlin!

Le Tout Nouveau Testament, the latest film by Jaco Van Dormael, proved a smashing hit at the Berlin film market, which was concluded last Friday. The film is currently in post-production, for completion early May. International sales are handled by Le Pacte, which screened a six minute promo-reel early in the market, much to the buyers’ delight!

Using this six minute footage, Le Pacte managed to secure pre-sales for no less than fifteen territories, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Norway, Sweden, former Yugoslavia, Poland, Greece, Turkey, Colombia and Hong Kong. Negotiations for other territories are in an advanced stage.

For his film director Van Dormael assembled a five-star cast to support his protagonists Benoît Poelvoorde (god) and Pili Groyne (god’s daughter): François Damiens, Yolande Moreau, Catherine Deneuve, Serge Larivière, Didier de Neck, Laura Verlinden, Romain Gelin and Marco Lorenzini.

The Newest Testament tells the story of Ea, daughter of god. Yes, God does exist! He actually lives in Brussels. Ánd he is a bastard, who treats his wife and his eleven year-old daughter very badly. There has been a lot of discussion about his son, but not about his daughter. And in revenge she publishes everybody’s dying day on the internet.

The Newest Testament is a Belgian Terra Incognita Films and Climax production, in co-production with French Après le Déluge and Luxemburg-based Juliette Films, with the support of the Centre du Cinéma of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, Wallimage, RTBF, Casa Kafka, Fortis film fund, the Flemish Audiovisual Fund and Screen Flanders.

The film will be released in Belgian theatres by Belga Films and in France by Le Pacte. No release date has been set.

The European Film Market, which takes place in the margin of the famous Berlinale, is one of the most prominent European meeting places for the film industry. This year’s edition was attended by more than 1,500 buyers from all across the globe.
