Les Films du Losange will handle international sales and theatrical distribution in France of Prejudice, the first feature by Belgian filmmaker Antoine Cuypers, produced by young producer Benoît Roland’s Brussels-based Wrong Men production company. The international distributor felt seduced by the film when it was selected for Elisabeth Depardieu’s emergence development workshop for upcoming talent. The Benelux rights for Prejudice will be handled by Cinéart.

The film is currently in post-production.

After his remarkable short film A New Old Story, Antoine Cuypers now turns to a ‘huis clos’ family drama featuring Nathalie Baye, Arno, Ariane Labed (recently best actress award at Locarno), Eric Caravaca, Cathy Min-Jung, Julien Baumgartner and Thomas Blanchard.

During a family meal, 32 year-old Cedric (Thomas Blanchard) learns that his sister (Ariane Labed) is expecting a baby. While the news is met with genuine excitement by the whole family, Cedric, who still lives with his parents (Nathalie Baye and Arno), does not seem pleased, he even takes it with a certain amount of resentment. As his simple dream – a trip to Austria – is subject to discussion, Cedric’s resentment turns into anger and even fury. During the family celebration, he will try to expose the prejudice he claims to be the victim of, in front of everyone. Between denial and paranoia, revolt and false pretence, how far is a family willing to go to keep its balance? From which point does it have suppress the right to be different?

Producer of the film is Belgian production company Wrong Men. This young company, which already made its mark with international co-productions, now presents its first film as main producer. Prejudice is co-produced with Lucil Film (Luxemburg) and CTM Pictures in the Netherlands. It received support from the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, the Filmfund Luxembourg, the Dutch Film Fund, Mollywood and Proximus.

There is a busy time ahead for Wrong Men, as, apart from Prejudice, it is currently preparing a series of awaited films, among which The Invisible Enemy by Jonathan Littell, a feature-length documentary co-produced with Veilleur de Nuit (France) and Zero One Film (Germany), Dode Hoek by Nabil Ben Yadir (Les Barons, La marche), a co-production with Antilope Joyeuse (Belgium) and Eyeworks (Belgium) and Pilgrimage by Brendan Muldowney, a co-production with SP Films in Ireland. All three films also receive support from the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels.

Wrong Men is currently also developing first features by Guérin van de Vorst (Putain Lapin, Osez la macédoine) and Valéry Rosier (Dimanches, Silence Radio).
