FilmFest Hamburg will open with The Brand New Testament

Hamburg will host Van Dormael and his crew for the German premiere of the film

The Brand New Testament will open the 23rd Filmfest Hamburg on 1 October 2015. Director Jaco Van Dormael and the actors in his film are expected to attend the German premiere in Hamburg.

Festival Director Albert Wiederspiel is delighted:

"Jaco Van Dormael is a director who takes a long time to make his films. But every single one of them is a major event. Almost 25 years after Toto the Hero, The Brand New Testament also displays Van Dormael’s unmistakeable signature. His love for the outsiders of our society is now captured in a heavenly direction. The result is a philosophical-religious farce that enchants the hearts and minds of its audience.”

In The Brand New Testament, God (Benoit Poelvoorde) lives with his wife (Yolande Moreau) and young daughter Ea (Pili Groyne) in Brussels where he plays the tyrant of the family. Until Ea gets fed up of this, hacks into God’s old computer and sets off a chain of events by sending a short message: “Commandment No. 2231: Misfortune seldom arrives alone”.

The Brand New Testament celebrated its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the “Quinzaine des Réalisateurs” (Director’s Fortnight) section.

The film will arrive in German cinemas on 3 December 2015, distributed by NFP marketing & distribution.
