The Brand New Testament wins Best Comedy at the Austin Fantastic Fest

Thursday evening, at the closing ceremony of the Austin Fantastic Fest, the jury awarded The Brand New Testament by Jaco Van Dormael Best Comedy

For its North American premiere, the film received a very warm welcome from both the public and specialized press: “The Brand New Testament is a modern, magical, dreamy and rollicking fairy tale for adults - possessing an inalienable zeitgeist quality.” says Twitchfilm, or on Ain’t it cool: "I really can't say enough good things about this film. It is beautiful, poignant, whimsical, and hilarious all at the same time. The visual impact aptly matches the emotional messages of the film, creating a cinematic event that you just don't find everyday." Performances by Benoît Poelvoorde, Yolande Moreau, Catherine Deneuve and François Damiens in this poetic and humorous fairy-tale won over both the jury and the public.

It’s a thundering start for the North American campaign of The Brand New Testament that was chosen to represent Belgium at the Oscars this year. The film is also one of the 52 in the running for the European Film Awards.

Since its release early September, the film has drawn more than 710 000 spectators in France (Le Pacte Distribution), 200 000 in Belgium (Belga Films) and 20.000 in Switzerland (Frenetic).

Le Pacte, handling international sales, has sold the film to more than 50 countries. Upcoming releases include Spain on October 16, Greece and Italy on November 26, and Germany on the 3rd of December. Release is expected in the Netherlands before the end of the year.
