Between 1963 and 1991, four Protestant German families settle in the small Israeli village of Migdal. These families decide to set up activities that will create work fot the mentally handicapped living in the village. Against the background of operation «Grape of Wrath», the filmmaker questions Günther, the first German to settle in Migdal, on the reasons underlying his departure from Germany, the sense of guilt that drove him on, his thoughts on nationalism, exclusion and belonging to a new culture. Although these families have built their lives around a respect of nature and a love for the mentally handicapped, «The People of Migdal» shows us the limits of Utopia.
