In a retirement home on the edge of a little village in the south of France, the residents are trying to create a society in an anonymous, often hostile environment. What bonds do they manage to forge? What solutions do they find to alleviate the ever-pervasive loneliness? What is revealed about the intimate relationships they have with life as they approach death? Les heures creuses sheds light on these under-represented beings and bodies – bodies that are ageing but still very much alive – and attempts to uncover the irrepressible vital force that is often secretly hidden within this antechamber of death.
