Thomas, a confirmed bachelor in his fifties, lives a happy life shaped by his love of books and cats. When he is diagnosed with macular degeneration and learns he will gradually lose his ability to read, his world begins to unravel. Refusing to learn Braille, Thomas undertakes to record one hundred books that have marked his life, while training himself for his future handicap by wearing an eye mask. But as he immerses himself in that quest, unexpected effects brought about by literature begin to surface.
