Tiébélé – a city of Burkina Faso close to the Ghanaian border, in Kasena country. The architecture of the houses made of earth is very particular here. The walls are covered with motifs and enigmatic drawings, its colours: laterite, black and white. If the construction of huts is a duty reserved for the men, their decoration is left to the women who, each year after the raining season, restore or renew these mural paintings. Through the alternate portraits of these women artists, in part the guardians of the Kasena memory and identity, Traces – Women’s Prints deals with the evolution of relations at the heart of communities. The film also raises questions about the transmission and conservation of heritage within the context of a mutating society.
