AFI FEST 2025: Two Belgian Films Selected!

The American festival AFI FEST has chosen “We Believe You” and “Young Mothers” for its 39th edition!

AFI FEST is a world-renowned event that showcases the best films from around the globe to an enthusiastic audience in Los Angeles. With its diverse and innovative programming, the festival offers a rich selection of feature and short films—fiction, documentary, and animation—across its regular sections, as well as panel discussions and Q&As with established filmmakers and emerging voices in cinema.

We Believe You by Arnaud Dufeys and Charlotte Devillers has been selected in the “Discovery” section. Produced by Makintosh Films and internationally sold by The Party Film Sales, the film had its world premiere earlier this year at the Berlinale.

Today, Alice stands before a judge, knowing there’s no room for error. She must speak up for her children and confront their father, as custody is being called into question. Can she make their voices heard and protect them before it’s too late?

The new film by the Dardenne brothers, Young Mothers, has been selected in the “Luminaires” section. The film was produced by Les Films du Fleuve and is internationally sold by Goodfellas.

Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane and Naïma are housed in a shelter for young mothers. Five teenagers hoping for a better life for themselves and their babies.

Additionally, the festival will feature several minority co-productions also supported by the CCA, including The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo by Diego Céspedes (co-produced by Wrong Men) and Silent Rebellion by Marie-Elsa Sgualdo (co-produced by Hélicotronc).

We also wish to highlight the presence of the Belgian production company Scope Pictures in the credits of TheStranger by François Ozon.

Come discover these films at AFI FEST, taking place October 22–26, 2025, in Los Angeles!
