FID Marseille 2025: Two Belgian films selected!

The French documentary film festival has selected "A Gaza" and "We Had Fun Yesterday" its 36th edition.

The FID Marseille (International Documentary Festival) is an unmissable cinematic event dedicated to documentary film in all its forms. Over the years, this Marseille-based festival has established itself as a space for artistic exploration, where documentary, fiction, and experimentation intersect freely. Every year in July, the FID brings together filmmakers from around the world, industry professionals, and a curious public for screenings, discussions, and encounters. The festival stands out for its bold programming and commitment to auteur-driven cinema.

The film To Gaza by Belgian director Catherine Libert will have its French premiere at the festival. This self-produced work is featured in the “Other Gems” program.

Filmed by the inhabitants of Gaza, this documentary captures the destruction, suffering, and resistance of displaced individuals. The poems of Refaat Alareer, who was killed in Gaza on 7 December 2023, accompany this chronicle of an ongoing genocide.

The Belgian short film We Had Fun Yesterday, directed by Marion Guillard, will be presented in the “Special Screenings” program. This year, it was pre-selected for the Magritte Award for Best Documentary Short Film. The film was produced by the Centre Vidéo de Bruxelles.

When I was younger, I hated my body as much as I was obsessed by images of nature. On the one hand, I told myself that they were sublime, and that’s why they existed, and on the other, I had the impression that as a woman, if people didn’t look at me, I was going to disappear. I loved images so much that I forgot what was real.

See you in Marseille from July 8 to 13, 2025!
