Lubna Azabal wins the Best Actress Award in Tallinn!
Lubna Azabal has got awarded with the Best Actress Award at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2023.
This weekend marked the closing of the 27th edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia. The Official Selection Jury in the festival's Competition section decided to award Lubna Azabal with the Best Actress Award for her role in the film Amal by Jawad Rhalib, produced by Scope Pictures.
Amal, a teacher in a Brussels school, encourages her pupils to cultivate a love of reading and freedom of expression, even if it means putting herself in danger. Her daring teaching practices will change her pupils' lives.
Lubna Azabal has received multiple awards throughout her career. In 2011, at the 13th Jutras, she won the Jutra for Best Actress for her outstanding performance in Denis Villeneuve's Incendies. This achievement was further recognized with the Magritte Award for Best Actress in February 2012 at the second Magritte Awards ceremony. In 2017, she took on the lead role alongside Olivier Gourmet in Tueurs, a film by François Troukens and Jean-François Hensgens, earning her the Best Actress trophy at the 9th Magritte Awards in February 2019.
