The list of films selected for the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival has been unveiled. Rosine Mbakam's Mambar Pierrette produced with the support of the Centre du Cinéma de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, is selected in the Wavelengths section.
In the rain of Douala, Mambar, resigned, empties the water that entered her house with the help of her children. When she arrives at her sewing workshop, the same ordeal begins again. One by one, customers parade through her workshop with one word on their lips: preparing for the back-to-school season. Mambar hasn't bought anything yet for her children. Her days are long, her children's anticipation is great, but will the rain in Douala allow the sun to shine on Mambar and her children?
This film, produced by Tândor Productions and distributed by The Party Film Sales, began its international journey in May earlier this year at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes.
It's also worth noting that among the films selected in Toronto this year, there's a Wallonia-Brussels minority co-production: The Green Border by Agnieszka Holland, featuring Joely Mbundu (Tori and Lokita), co-produced by Beluga Tree (Diana Elbaum), in the Centrepiece section.
The 2023 Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 7 to September 17, 2023."
