Teona Strugar Mitevska’s New Film, at the 2025 Venice Film Festival!
Teona Strugar Mitevska’s latest feature film, "Mother", has been selected to open the Orizzonti section at the 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival, taking place from August 27 to September 6, 2025.
Founded in 1932, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and remains one of the most prestigious. Held annually on the Lido of Venice as part of the Biennale, it showcases global cinema in all its richness, celebrating both legendary filmmakers and new voices shaping the future of the art form.
Mother, a Belgian production by Entre Chien et Loup, will have its world premiere in the Orizzonti section. The film is represented internationally by Kinology.
White sari or dark cloak, white lies or dark secrets, making or taking a sacrifice? How to walk spotless? How to wash a stain? Can we judge the ambitious and combative woman disguised in the attire of a saint? Was she (in)capable to love?
On the co-production side, supported by the Centre du Cinéma, we find the film Calle Malaga by Maryam Touzani, co-produced by Velvet Films, selected in the Venice Spotlight section. International sales are handled by Films Boutique.
We also wish to highlight the presence of the production company Hélicotronc in the credits of the film À bras le corps by Marie-Elsa Sgualdo, also selected in the Venice Spotlight section, as well as Scope Pictures in the credits of The Strangerby François Ozon, in Competition.
Finally, let us note the selection of the film Yesterday the Eye Didn’t Sleep by Rakan Maysi, produced by the Belgian production company Atata, as part of the Final Cut in Venice program.
See you on the Lido, from August 27 to September 6, 2025!
