

Teona Strugar Mitevska’s New Film, at the 2025 Venice Film Festival!
Teona Strugar Mitevska’s latest feature film, "Mother", has been selected to open the Orizzonti section at the 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival, taking place from August 27 to September 6, 2025.
Founded in 1932, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world and remains one of the most prestigious. Held annually on the Lido of Venice as part of the Biennale, it showcases global cinema in all its richness, celebrating both legendary filmmakers and new voices shaping the future of the art form.
Mother, a Belgian production by Entre Chien et Loup, will have its world premiere in the Orizzonti section. The film is represented internationally by Kinology.
White sari or dark cloak, white lies or dark secrets, making or taking a sacrifice? How to walk spotless? How to wash a stain? Can we judge the ambitious and combative woman disguised in the attire of a saint? Was she (in)capable to love?
In addition, several other Belgian productions are present this year:
Velvet Films is the co-producer of Calle Malaga by Maryam Touzani, also selected in the Venice Spotlight section. The film is represented internationally by Films Boutique.
The Belgian production company Hélicotronc is credited onÀ bras le corps by Marie-Elsa Sgualdo, also featured in the Venice Spotlight section. Another belgian production company, Scope Pictures has worked on The Stranger by François Ozon in Competition.
Lastly, we highlight the selection of Yesterday the Eye Didn’t Sleep by Rakan Maysi, produced by the Belgian company Atata, which is part of the Final Cut in Venice program.
