John D, a septuagenarian living in a luxury hotel on Côte d’Azur, is intrigued by his next door neighbor who reminds him of the wildest hours on the Riviera during the 1960s. At that time, he was a spy in a rapidly developing world full of promise. One day, this neighbor mysteriously disappears... bringing John face to face with his demons: are his former adversaries back to wreak havoc in his idyllic world?
In the Made in/with Luxembourg section, Jahia’s Summer directed by Olivier Meys and produced by Michigan Films, has been selected. The film had its world premiere at the Göteborg Film Festival a few weeks ago.
Jahia, a teenager from Burkina Faso, lives in a center for asylum seekers in Belgium. With no prospects, Jahia has a fear of the future that isolates her and prevents her from living. One day, she meets Mila, a young Belarusian girl, who drags her along in her crazy energy. It's the beginning of summer, and of a friendship that will change her life.
Lastly, Don’t Worry by Solange Cicurel, produced by Beluga Tree, has been selected for the festival’s Young Audience section.
Confident and popular sixteen-year-old Emma is in a coma. Why? What happened to her? To find out, she becomes an invisible ‘ghost’ for a few days, where she can see all, hear all, and dive back into her memories to rebuild her story.
Let's also highlight the presence of the French-speaking Belgian co-productions: Peaches Goes Bananas by Marie Losier (Michigan Films, Official Selection), Julie Keeps Quiet by Leonardo Van Dijl (Les Films du Fleuve, Youth Audience), and Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds by Benoît Chieux (Take Five, Youth Audience).
