Autokar rewarded at Animafest Zagreb 2026

French-speaking Belgian animation had a strong presence at Animafest Zagreb, one of the world's leading animation festivals. Four productions supported by the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles have been selected for the 36th edition of the Croatian festival, which took place from June 8th to 13th 2026.

Founded in 1972, Animafest Zagreb is the world's second-oldest festival entirely dedicated to animated film, after Annecy. Renowned for the quality of its programming and its importance within the animation industry, the festival provides a major showcase for international animation talent. This year, French-speaking Belgium will be represented across several competition sections with four works that highlight the diversity and vitality of its animation scene.

In the Grand Competition, Autokar by Sylwia Szkiladz continued its successful festival run and was rewarded with a Special Award.
In the Films for Children Competition, three French-speaking Belgian productions have been selected: Prout by Marc-Henri Wajnberg, Poisson nuageby Noé Garcia, and L’aigle et le roiteletby Paul Jadoul. This strong showing further confirms the position of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles as one of Europe's most dynamic animation territories, both in films for young audiences and in prestigious international competitions.
