Five Belgian films at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival 2025!
For its 18th edition, the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival (FFA) will showcase five Belgian works: “Kwibuka”, “Haunted Minds”, “Wild Foxes", “Kika” and "Maldoror".
Founded in 2008, the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival has become an essential event for francophone cinema. Each year, at the end of August, the city of Angoulême welcomes filmmakers, actors, and enthusiasts to celebrate the richness and diversity of French-language films. The program includes premieres, encounters, tributes, and competitions that highlight the creativity of francophone cinema, all in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
The world premiere of Jonas d’Adesky’s second feature film, Kwibuka, produced by Neon Rouge Production, will be presented in the "Nouveaux regards" section.
Lia, a Belgian-Rwandan mulatto, is in the twilight of her professional basketball career in Belgium. One day, the coach of the Rwandan team offers her a selection for the African championship. She leaves for Rwanda where she has not returned since she fled the genocide at nine years of age. This trip, which brings back memories of a painful past, will profoundly change her life.
Also on the program, the new film by Lucas Belvaux, Haunted Minds, produced by Artemis Productions, will be screened in the "Les Flamboyants" section.
Estranged from his children and their mother and suffering from PTSD, skilled army veteran Skender is now homeless. Out of the blue, Max—his former sergeant—approaches him with a life-changing offer. Max’s employer is a very wealthy woman who has hunted every animal on the planet and is looking for the ultimate prey: A man. If Skender agrees, his family will receive a large sum of money upon his death, which is almost certain. However, if he survives for one month, he walks away with the cash. The hunt will take place in six months, in a foreign country. In the meantime, Skender will be housed in a luxury apartment and given access to unlimited funds. Skender accepts the offer, but instead of preparing for the hunt, he focuses on reconnecting with his sons and their mother, Manon, trying to make up for lost time. With something finally worth fighting for, Skender becomes more dangerous than they could ever have imagined…
After being selected at La Quinzaine des Cinéastes and awarded at Cannes, Wild Foxes by Valéry Carnoy, produced by Hélicotronc, will also be presented at the festival, in the "Les avent-premières" section.
At a sports boarding school, talented young boxer Camille narrowly survives a fatal accident, saved by his best friend Matteo. After a swift recovery, an inexplicable pain gradually takes hold of him, threatening his dreams of greatness and his relationship with the team. In the ring and in a man’s world, there’s no room for weakness.
Following its premiere at La Semaine de la Critique in Cannes and its selection in numerous festivals, Kika by Alexe Poukine, produced by Wrong Men, will also be screened in the "Premiers Rendez-Vous".
While pregnant with her second child, Kika faces the sudden death of her partner. Totally heartbroken, and broke, she sets her priorities straight :
1. make money fast
2. stay strong.
Dirty underwear, dildos and neurotic parents will unexpectedly help.
Maldoror by Fabrice du Welz and produced by Frakas Productions will be in the "Events" section. The director is also membre of the jury for this year's edition.
The next edition of the festival will take place from August 25 to 30, 2025 in Angoulême.
