"Through the Night" awarded at Venice!

The 20th edition of Giornate degli Autori (a parallel section of the Venice Film Festival) has announced its winners. "Through the Night" the debut feature film by Delphine Girard presented in its world premiere, has been awarded the Audience Award!

Starring Veerle Baetens, Selma Alaoui, and Guillaume Duhesme, the film received a very warm reception during its official screening on Tuesday, September 5th, as well as positive reviews from the international press.

"Excellent at handling the pace of the narrative and the emotions, and supported by a cast of impeccable actors [...] the Belgian director has already amply earned her place among the most interesting names in new European cinema," stated The Hollywood Reporter.

The film begins on a night when a woman in danger calls the police. Anna answers the call, and a man is arrested. Weeks go by, and the justice system searches for evidence while Aly, Anna, and Dary grapple with the echoes of that night they can't escape.

The film is produced by Versus Production (Jacques-Henri Bronckart) with the support of the Centre du Cinéma de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles and co-produced with Haut et Court, The Reunion, and Colonelle Films. Through the Night is distributed internationally by Playtime and in Belgium by O'Brother Distribution.

Delphine Girard has previously directed three highly acclaimed short films: "Monstre" in 2014, "Caverne" in 2017, and "Une sœur," which was a finalist for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2020.

It's worth noting that two co-productions supported by the Centre du Cinéma de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles were also recognized at the Mostra. The Green Border by Agnieszka Holland, co-produced in Belgium by Beluga Tree (Diana Elbaum), won the Special Jury Prize, and Io Capitaino by Matteo Garrone, co-produced by Tarantula Belgique, received the Silver Lion for Best Director.
