Mecal 2026 : Six films selected!

No fewer than six French-language Belgian films will be featured in the MECAL 2026 program, four of which are in competition.

MECAL Pro, the International Short Film and Animation Festival of Barcelona, has established itself over the years as a key reference in the European audiovisual landscape. Through its innovative and demanding programming, the festival showcases emerging talents and the most creative works in short filmmaking and animation. Internationally recognized, MECAL Pro enjoys the support of local, national, and international cultural institutions, further strengthening its position among the most prestigious short film festivals in Europe and around the world.

In the InternationalCompetition section, two fiction short films are featured: Bunker by Colin Javaux, produced by Abyssal Process, and L’Echappée belle by Axel Capite and Louis Kempeneers, produced by Désordres Production.

In the Documentary Competition section, the film Family Reunion by Jean Forest, produced by Rayuela Productions, is selected.

In the same section, audiences will also find Rio Remains Beautiful, directed and produced by Felipe Casanova and Un point bleu pâle. The film is sold by MoreThan Films.

Peninsula by Angèle Vergoni and Sarah Vanhoeck is featured in the Children section. The film is produced by Haute École Albert Jacquard.

La petite fille à la pomme by Rose Denis, produced by Camera-etc, is programmed in the Shortest Shorts section.

It is also worth noting the presence of French-speaking Belgian productions in the credits of the following films: Birth of a fire by Archibald Martin (Cookies Films) in the Terror section, The Sound of the Doorbell by Raphaël Charlier (Toast Films), and Le Banc by Federica Barontini (Saga Film), both featured in the Comedy section.

The festival takes place from May 21 to 31 in Barcelona.
