A Belgian Short Film Selected for the 2026 Sundance Film Festival

Belgian cinema once again stands out on the international stage. The short film “Hugs”, written, directed, and produced by Nicolas Fong, has just been selected for the upcoming edition of the Sundance Film Festival, which will take place in the United States in January 2026.

Considered one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world, Sundance has, over the decades, established itself as an essential reference for independent cinema. Founded in 1978, the festival has played a decisive role in bringing bold cinematic forms to the forefront, often outside traditional commercial circuits. It provides international visibility to low-budget works driven by singular perspectives and innovative themes, thereby contributing to the renewal of the aesthetics and narratives of contemporary cinema.

A true springboard for emerging talent, Sundance has revealed many filmmakers who are now widely recognized, while also fostering connections between creators, producers, and distributors. Films that are awarded or otherwise noted at the festival frequently benefit from wider distribution and increased critical recognition, confirming Sundance’s strategic role in shaping and legitimizing independent cinema on an international scale.

Written, directed, and produced by Nicolas Fong, Hugs is distributed by Miyu Distribution.

See you in Park City and Salt Lake City from January 22 to February 1!
