A Belgium Focus at the Uruguay International Film Festival!
Twelve films from Wallonia Brussels have been programmed as part of the Belgium Focus at the 2026 Uruguay International Film Festival.
Organized by the Uruguayan Cinematheque, the Uruguay International Film Festival is a major cultural event held annually in Montevideo. This 44th edition will take place from March 30 to April 12 at the Cinematheque, an iconic venue dedicated to the preservation and promotion of cinema.
For this 2026 edition, the festival has chosen to devote a focus on Belgian cinema, in partnership with our colleagues from Flanders Image.
The Guest Country: Belgium section will feature numerous films, including Hair, Paper, Water… by Nicolas Graux and Truong Minh Quy, Kika by Alexe Poukine, The Girls from Above by Bérangère McNeese, Maturity by Jean-Benoît Ugeux, Six Days in Spring by Joachim Lafosse, as well as the trilogy by Fabrice du Welz (Calvaire, Alléluia, Adoration), and the short film A Sky So Low by Joachim Michaux.
As part of this Belgian focus, Adam's Sake by Laura Wandel will be presented in the International Feature Film Competition, and Valéry Carnoy’s debut film Wild Foxes will compete in the New Directors Competition.
Young Mothers by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne will be screened in the Trajectory section.
Finally, the short film Rio Remains Beautiful by Felipe Casanova will be presented in the International Short Film Competition.
A small delegation from Wallonia Brussels will be present at the festival to accompany these films.
The Uruguay International Film Festival will take place from March 30 to April 12, 2026!
