A historic year for Belgian cinema in Busan !

A total of four films have just been selected for the 30th edition of the Busan International Film Festival !

The Busan International Film Festival is one of the most dynamic film events in Asia as well as the largest celebration of Asian cinema. Since its inception, the festival has become a driving force in the development of not only Korean cinema but also Asian cinema. With a variety of films from different genres and origins, BIFF continues to provide a strong foundation for the development of the local film industry and to discover new global talents through constructive efforts, including a co-production market and practical support programs for Korean and Asian film productions.

The Dardenne’s brothers new film, Young Mothers, will be presented in the "Icons" section. The film is produced by Les Films du Fleuve, in co-production with The Reunion and Archipel 35. It is represented internationally by Goodfellas, the film was released in Belgium on June 4, 2025.

Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane and Naïma are housed in a young mothers’ home to help them in their life as young mothers. Five under-aged mothers fight to obtain a better life for themselves and their children.

Laura Wandel’sAdam’s Sakealso continues to garner attention since opening the Critics' Week in Cannes.Produced by Dragon Films and Les Films du Fleuve and sold internationally by Indie Sales, it joins the “World Cinema” section.

Following a court ruling, four-year-old Adam is hospitalised for malnutrition. Lucy, he head nurse, allows Adam’s mother to stay past the court-mandated visiting hours. Complications ensue when the mother, once again, refuses to leave her son’s bedside. For the sake of the child, Lucy will do anything to help this mother in distress.

After being selected at Directors’ Fortnight and winning two awards in Cannes,Wild Foxesby Valéry Carnoy, produced by Hélicotronc, will be presented at the Busan Festival in the “Flash Forward” section.

At a sports boarding school, talented young boxer Camille narrowly survives a fatal accident, saved by his best friend Matteo. After a swift recovery, an inexplicable pain gradually takes hold of him, threatening his dreams of greatness and his relationship with the team. In the ring and in a man’s world, there’s no room for weakness. 

Hair, Paper, Water… (Tóc, Giấy và Nước…), the film that just won the Golden Leopard (Pardo d’Oro) for Best Film in the Cineasti Del Presente section and received a Special Mention from the jury for the Green Leopard at the Locarno Festival, will also be shown at Busan.The new film by Nicolas Graux and Trương Minh Quý will appear in the “Wide Angle - Documentary Showcase” section. It is produced by Dérives and sold internationally by Lights On.

She was born in a cave, more than 60 years ago. Now she lives in a village, with many children and grandchildren to look after. Sometimes, she dreams of her dead mother calling her home – to the cave. The film captures fleeting moments of her daily life and the transmission of her fragile language, Rục, to her grandchildren.

Also worth noting is the selection of titles that received support from the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel. In the “Icons” section is Alpha by Julia Ducournau, co-produced by Frakas Productions.The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo by Diego Céspedesis in the “Flash Forward” section, co-produced by Wrong Men.
