A remarkable year for Belgium at Curtas Vila do Conde 2026!

For its 34th edition, six Belgian productions will be featured in the programme of the Portuguese festival, which will take place from 17 to 26 July.

Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival is one of Portugal’s most important events dedicated to short films. Founded in 1993, it takes place every summer in the coastal city of Vila do Conde. The festival showcases creativity and innovation in contemporary cinema through a demanding programme that spans fiction, animation, documentary, and experimental filmmaking.

Curtas Vila do Conde is renowned for its ability to discover emerging talent while also welcoming established filmmakers from around the world. In addition to its international and national competitions, the festival offers concerts, exhibitions, workshops, and masterclasses, making each edition a true celebration of cinema.

Following its world premiere at Locarno in 2025, A Sky So Low by Joachim Michaux, produced by Naoko Films, will be presented in the International Competition.

Rio Remains Beautiful by Felipe Casanova, produced by Un Point Bleu Pâle and Cruising Pictures, continues its successful festival run and will be screened in the festival’s Special Screening section.

Also featured in the European Short Film Audience Award section is Under the Radar by Frédérique de Montblanc, produced by Wrong Men.

In the Curtinhas Competition, three Belgian productions have been selected: Noëlle’s Barn by Pascale Hecquet, produced by La Boîte,…Productions; Sketches on Ice by Marion Auvin, also produced by La Boîte,…Productions; and The Great Dreamscape by Rémi Durin, produced by Kwassa Films.

Belgium will also be represented at the film market with two projects: Furies by Olivia Murrieri, produced by White Boat Pictures, currently in development, and 2:Love by Ronni Shalev, produced by Ozu Productions, which will be presented in the Industry Screenings programme.

Finally, two guests will be part of the French-speaking delegation: Ellen Meiresonne, Production Manager at Atelier Graphoui, and Zahra Benasri, founder of Hors du Bocal, a distribution and international sales company.
