Three French-speaking Belgian productions selected at the LuxFilmFest

"Il pleut dans la maison", "The New Man" and "Jules & Juliette" will be featured in the lineup of the Luxembourg City Film Festival 2024

As the official festival of the country, the Luxembourg City Film Festival annually presents a meticulously crafted program, including numerous film premieres. Providing a genuine overview of contemporary international creativity through a diverse selection of fiction and documentaries, as well as special screenings, national productions, and a dedicated youth program, the festival spans over a period of eleven days. LuxFilmFest is also one of the co-founders of the Europa Film Festivals network, currently comprising 11 European events, and currently holds the presidency of this federation.

In the lineup for the 14th edition, we first have Il pleut dans la maison by Paloma Sermon-Daï. After being featured at the Cannes Film Festival during the Critics' Week and receiving several awards in different festivals, including the Bayard d'Or at the last FIFF edition, the film produced by Michigan Films and sold internationally by Heretic is now selected in the Official Competition of LuxFilmFest.

One hot and stormy summer by a touristic lake, seventeen year old Purdey and her younger brother Makenzy walk the line between experiencing adolescence, finding love and fending for themselves. While Purdey works as a cleaner in a hotel complex, Makenzy earns some money by robbing tourists. Left to their own devices, they must learn to support each other in a surprisingly tender journey that chronicles what feels like the last summer of their youth.

Next, we find The New Man by Carlos Yuri Ceuninck in the Official Selection - Carte Blanche. This documentary, produced by Néon Rouge, had already received several festival selections in 2023, including FESPACO and IDFA.

QUIRINO, 76, has lived for more than 30 years in an abandoned village, at the bottom of a deep valley, between the sea and the mountains. Feeling the effects of old age, Quirino faces the dilemma of having to leave the only place he has ever known or end his days there.

Finally, the animated short film Jules et Juliette by Chantal Peten will be part of the festival's Youth Program.

It’s a beautiful summer day, and Jules and Juliette are off to the beach. On their heads they carry the inflatable boat they intend to set out in. It’s quite something! Of course, Jules is quite clumsy and rather mischievous. The beach is deserted. It promises to be a glorious, fun-filled day for the two friends.

Join us in Luxembourg from February 29 to March 10, 2024!
