"Amal" and "Eldorado" in competition at the FCVQ !

The FCVQ has selected two French-speaking Belgian productions for its 13th edition

For over ten years, the Festival de cinéma de la ville de Québec (FCVQ) has been offering the public in the greater Capitale-Nationale region and eastern Québec a grand celebration of cinema. From fiction to documentary, from local to national and international cinema, the FCVQ is an event that brings together film enthusiasts and the general public for a festive and convivial gathering.

The FCVQ has selected Amal by Jawad Rhalib in its Official Competition. The film has already circulated in numerous international festivals, including Palm Springs and the Tallinn Black Nights, where Lubna Azabal won the Best Actress award in 2023. Amal is produced by Scope Pictures and internationally distributed by Bendita Film Sales.

Amal, a teacher in a Brussels school, encourages her students to cultivate a love of reading and freedom of expression, even if it means putting herself at risk. Her bold teaching practices will change her students' lives.

In the Short Films Competition, we will find "Eldorado" by Mathieu Volpe, recently selected at the Sao Paulo Short Film Festival. The film is produced by Velvet Films.

Originally from Cameroon, Awa works as a snow groomer driver in La Thuile, the last Italian town before France. At the end of her shift, she encounters a young migrant desperately trying to cross the border. Helping him cross the mountains might be her only way to silence a constant, nagging guilt.

The 13th edition of the FCVQ will take place from September 11 to 15, 2024.
