Two Focuses and many Wallonia-Brussels films on the programme at Festival dei Popoli

The programme of the 63rd edition of Festival dei Popoli was unveiled on Monday 24 October. A number of Wallonia-Brussels films are included, with a tribute to the Dardenne brothers and to Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd (in their presence), as well as the world premiere of the film "An Italia Youth" by Mathieu Volpe.

For its 63rd edition, the Festival dei Popoli spotlights French-language Belgian cinema. Among the titles selected are many Wallonia-Brussels productions. In particular, the national competition includes An Italia Youth by the Belgian-Italian director Mathieu Volpe, which has its world premiere.

In the short film section, the INSAS student short film A Diary of Sexual Solitude by Nina Alexandraki is presented in the DoC at Work - Future Campus section.

Also noteworthy is a section on the Dardenne brothers entitled The Promise of the Real: the Cinema of Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. It retraces the brothers' career, notably with their first politically engaged documentaries of the 1970s and 1980s produced by Dérives, with Lorsque le bateau de Léon M. descendit la Meuse pour la première fois, Pour que la guerre s'achèvent les murs devaient s'écrouler; R... ne répond plus; Leçons d'une université volante and Regarde Jonathan/Jean Louvet, son oeuvre. This section also presents a selection of feature films, some of which won awards at Cannes: The Promise; Rosetta; The Son; The Child; Lorna’s Silence; The Kid with a Bike and Tori and Lokita, the latest film produced by Les Films du Fleuve. The film Il fare politica - Cronaca della Toscana Rossa by Hugues Le Paige, also produced by the brothers with Les Films du Fleuve, will be shown too.

Finally, the festival recognises director Pierre-Yves Vandeweerd showing three of his films produced by Cobra Films: The Eternals; For The Lost; and Inner Lines, his latest production.

The next edition of the Festival dei Popoli will take place from 5 to 13 November.
