Several French-speaking Belgian films selected for the Transilvania International Film Festival

"Amal," "A silence," and "Life's a Bitch" are part of the 2024 lineup at Romania's largest festival.

Founded in 2002 in the city of Cluj-Napoca, the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) has quickly grown to become Romania's most important cinematic event and one of the most spectacular annual events in the region. Supported by the Creative Europe MEDIA program, in 2011, TIFF was accredited by FIAPF, placing it among the 40 most important festivals in the world.

After numerous festival selections in 2023 and 2024, notably at the Tallinn Black Nights where Lubna Azabal won the Best Actress Award,  Amal by Jawad Rhalib is featured in the Supernova section of the Romanian festival. The film is produced by Scope Pictures and internationally sold by Bendita Film Sales.

Amal, a teacher in a Brussels school, encourages her students to cultivate a love of reading and freedom of expression, even at the risk of endangering herself. Her daring pedagogical practices will change the lives of her students.

A silence by Joachim Lafosse has also been selected in the Supernova section. The film, produced by Stenola Productions and internationally sold by Les Films du Losanges, premiered at the San Sebastian Festival in 2023, where Joachim Lafosse was awarded the Best Director Prize at the 18th Rome Film Fest.

Astrid is the wife of a famous lawyer. Silent for 25 years, she sees her family balance collapse when her children seek justice.

Finally, Life's a Bitch by Xavier Seron will be part of the No Limit section. The film, produced by Hélicotronc and internationally sold by Be For Films, was notably selected at the Arcs Film Festival and Tallinn Black Nights.

To please Cécile, Tom agrees to take in his late neighbor's Chihuahua. The only problem is that this seemingly harmless creature appears to have driven its master to suicide and now wants to do the same to him.

Also notable is the presence of the French-speaking Belgian co-production of Beluga Tree, The Green Border, by Agnieszka Holland (Supernova).

The festival will take place from June 14 to 24, 2024, in Romania.
